Vans

Vans was founded in Anaheim, California, by Paul Van Doren along with his partners Jim Van Doren, Gordy Lee, and Serge Delia. The brand was initially named the Van Doren Rubber Company. On March 16th, the brand opened its first store and on the same day, 12 customers purchased shoes, now known as the "Authentic" model, which is characterised by its simple canvas design and sticky rubber sole. The brand also experienced financial challenges due to increased competition and changing consumer preferences. Today it's one of the most valued streetwear brands with a rich history, especially within the skating community. Since its strong connection to the sport Vans has opened indoor skateparks known as “House of Vans” in different locations, providing spaces for skateboarders to practise and engage in cultural events. While skateboarding remains at the core of its identity, Vans has expanded its product range to include various shoe styles, apparel, accessories, and collaborations that cater to a wide range of lifestyles and fashion preferences.

The marriage of skateboarding and streetwear

As skateboarding gained popularity and evolved into a cultural movement, the Vans waffle sole became an icon of the sport. Skateboarders quickly recognized the performance benefits of the sole's grip and durability, leading to a strong connection between Vans and the skateboarding community. When we talk about connections, skateboarding and streetwear represent the perfect couple which is the reason why not only skaters love Sk8-Hi or Old Skools but also Vans Knu Skool made people go crazy thanks to its vintage chunky aesthetic with thick soles. The mentioned Sk8-Hi are a staple piece which features reinforced materials for ankle support while offering a blend of style and functionality. Besides the classic black & white design the silhouette has been re-done in multiple collaborations with high-fashion brand Supreme or a cult brand WTAPS. The high-top shoe stays as timeless and popular as the Old Skool and Slip-On silhouettes. You must have seen the Slip-On classics in famous checkerboard design which literally made the model famous. Even though Vans sneakers are pretty affordable, prices for the special editions made within the different collaborations can climb up really high. Their most expensive pair of Vans shoes is the Vans ERA 95 made in collab with Fear of Gods where the price stays at 2,575$. There are indeed much more expensive shoes but for a pair of Vans it's solid.
