“Hi, I am Stan Smith. People think that I’m a shoe.” Says former US tennis champion who designed the popular adidas silhouette. It was the first tennis shoe made of leather. Adidas Stan Smith came out in 1964 labelled as “tennis shoes”, but they were later named after the American tennis player. The original design of the Stan Smith featured an all-white leather upper with green accents on the heel tab and tongue. In 2014, adidas celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Stan Smith by reissuing the original design. Over the years, adidas has released many variations of the shoe, including different colours, materials, and collaborations with designers and artists. But the original version remains a classic. The model is unique in the absence of a logo. Occasionally you will come across a model where Stan Smith's likeness is printed on the tongue of the shoe. These sneakers have inspired collaborations with renowned designers and brands such as Raf Simons, Pharrell Williams, and Comme des Garçons. These collaborations have resulted in unique and limited-edition versions of the shoe.
The Consortium brings together the retailers with the most influence on the sneakerhead community. Stores that have top tier offerings, i.e. the most limited editions. These are the retailers that the community has the most respect for and comes back to.
