Karhu

Imagine a strategy based on a smooth motion forward. Add to that the love of design, success, and the confidence to choose your own path. Then you get Karhu. The brand started in 1916 with a sports shop in the center of Helsinki. You could buy spears, skis, discs and running shoes here. The shoes were famous for their lightness and flexibility. The name Karhu in Finnish means bear. The letter M on the side of the sneakers symbolizes the Finnish word Mestari, which means champion.

Finland's treasure

In the US they have New Balance and in Finland they've come up with their own sneaker brand that's been holding some similarities to its American friend. Karhu sneakers have been on the market since 1916 and ever since then it's been a symbol of dad shoes in Finland. Their most famous silhouettes such as the Fusion or Synchron are highly popular for people who don't care about big brandings. The Karhu Fusion model is one of the iconic sneakers produced by the Finnish athletic footwear brand. The Karhu Fusion features a distinctive and timeless design characterised by bold colour combinations, often utilising contrasting panels. The upper of the sneaker is typically constructed with a mix of premium materials, including suede, leather, and mesh, offering both style and durability. Next in line is the Synchron silhouette which has a global fan base, with enthusiasts appreciating its blend of style and performance. What's special about Karhu sneakers is the Fulcrum technology. The Fulcrum is a pivot point located beneath the arch of the foot, enhancing the smoothness and efficiency of your stride while providing stability. The brand also collaborated with other sports brands such as Hanon. If you're looking for a funny and cute collaboration, Karhu also teamed up with Swedish cartoon Moomin to create sneakers with playful designs. What is interesting about the brand is that the famous three stripes used by adidas today were originally Karhu's trademark until 1952 and they sold the trademark to adidas for €1,600 + two bottles of great Finnish whiskey. What a deal.
