Phrases like ageless design and proven classics can be heard or used in connection with streetwear sneakers often. But Converse is the brand that sets the benchmark in both. The design of Chuck Taylor All Star High Top Sneakers has not changed since 1917. Marquis Mills Converse opened a shoe factory in 1908. Nine years later, the Non Skid model, a basketball sneaker for the whole of America, was born, as a printed advertisement informed us at the time. Non Skid is exactly the model that Chuck Taylor star has been added to later. And since then, they've been called Chuck Taylor's All Stars. Chuck was a semi-professional basketball player and coach who toured the states as a business traveler.

In addition, he and Marquis operated sports clinics and gyms at the YMCA centers. This way of marketing paid off, because during the 1940s, most professional and hobby basketball players wore Converse. However, the turning point came 30 years later, when sports shoes began to be dominated by Nike and adidas. Although their easy going aesthetics, along with the comfort that the canvas upper provides, have enchanted most world-famous rock and punk-rock bands such as the Ramones, Nirvana, Clash or Iron Maiden. They all wore Converse. The acquisition of Nike saved the brand for good.
