Moncler was originally founded in the French Alpine village of Monestier-de-Clermont, which is the origin of the brand's name (Mon-Cler). René Ramillon, one of the founders, initially designed the brand's first down jacket to protect his factory workers from the cold while working in the mountains. Luckily, the jacket made it to the streets and has been sought-after ever since. In 1968, Moncler became an official supplier for the French national ski team and solidified its reputation within the ski-gear-oriented market. While the brand initially focused on performance wear for mountain activities, it has successfully expanded its offerings to include a wide range of luxury apparel, footwear, and accessories. Moncler has successfully transitioned to high-end fashion runways. Collaborations with designers like Thom Browne and Giambattista Valli have elevated the brand to couture status. The brand is a part of fashion shows, ski slopes, expeditions and even cinematography. Moncler is truly a master in its field and it will be hard if someone's ever gonna take their place.
