The history of adidas dates back to 1920 when its founder, Adolf Dassler, began crafting athletic shoes in his mother's laundry room in Herzogenaurach, Germany. Initially known as the "Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory," Adolf and his brother Rudolf worked together to create innovative footwear for athletes. Their shoes gained recognition for their quality and performance, leading to their first major breakthrough during the 1936 Olympics when American sprinter Jesse Owens won four gold medals while wearing their spikes. The 1970s marked another milestone for adidas with the release of the iconic Superstar sneaker, distinguished by its distinctive shell toe and leather upper. Throughout the years, the brand continued to innovate and collaborate with athletes, designers, and celebrities. In recent years, adidas has expanded its reach beyond sportswear, delving into lifestyle and fashion realms. The brand's commitment to sustainability has also been a key focus, with initiatives such as the "Adidas Better Place Program" aiming to reduce environmental impact through responsible manufacturing practices and recycled materials. Today, adidas stands as one of the world's leading sportswear brands, known for its innovation, style, and unwavering dedication to supporting athletes' performance. Models like Stan Smith or Superstar are some of the best-selling silhouettes ever. Currently, the adidas Samba or Campus are the most sought-after models. The brand also includes a sports branch called adidas Performance. The latter differs in both focus and logo.
